Run This Town

I have a fascination. I am very intrigued with the process of casting people for movies. I was recently almost obsessed with the casting of a new Gatsby movie, especially when I found out Leonardo Dicaprio is going to play Gatsby himself. Does anyone else think he will do a great job? The Great Gatsby is probably my favorite non-Harry Potter novel, which is saying something. And for those of you who have read this book, which should be all of you, and have seen the 1974 movie with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow, which should be all of you, you understand that the great importance of the role of Daisy.

Daisy had is really carefree and playful, and I'm happy to say I am pleased with the choice of Carey Mulligan. I think she will be fantastic in what they are calling "the role of a lifetime." Oh I am getting butterflies just writting about this. Toby Maguire will be Nick Carraway, and already I am picturing these three in period costumes, and driving that beautiful car beneath the watch of Dr. T. J. Eckleburg.

This week, the biggest casting announcement will most likely be the role of Peeta alongside Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss in The Hunger Games. (I'm guessing they will have a Peeta by the end of the week.) I was really rooting for Hailee Steinfeld as Katniss, like really, really wanted her, but after a couple weeks of thought, I am ok with their choice. Both were nominated for Oscars this year, and both have great futures...maybe Hailee is still just too young. There is a big group of up-and-coming actors in for the part of Peeta, we'll see who gets lucky and is cast. Although we all know I like Gale a whole lot more, I can't wait to see who plays that piece of the love triangle.

-In other casting news, Amy Adams is Lois Lane in a Christopher Nolan produced Superman: Man of Steel. Armie Hammer as the Prince in The Brothers Grim: Snow White (just one of three in the works). And the Evil Queen in these? Julia Roberts, in The Brothers Grim, and Charlize Theron in a darker one that is hoping for Kristen Stewart to get the lead.

I am definitely in need of some good movies. We are nearing HPDH2, horray!
