April 19, 2010

Today in my Psychology class we were talking about phobias and anxiety disorders. One girl raised her hand to share her fear: zombies. A couple people chuckled, but then she started to cry. "I know it sounds stupid," she said, " but I really have a huge fear of them." The class went silent, she cried on, "My husband has been making me watch zombie movies, Shawn of the Dead, and Zombieland, they're stupid, but they still make me way scared and cry really hard." That poor girl, her hubby probably thinks it is hilarious. This reminded me of something I learned over the weekend while I was writing a paper on magic through history. I was writing my section on Voodoo when I came across Pertro, the bad branch of the before mentioned magic. Part of the practice of Petro is the making of zombies, (there is also death cursing and wild sexual orgies, but we don't care about that so much.) Voodoo is mostly practiced in Haiti. Recently, if you can't remember, there was a very large earthquake in Haiti sending destruction across the island. With that destrution, there may be some distraction from the Petro, and more practicing of the Rada (good Voodoo, 95% of all Voodoo practiced) meaning, there is less of a chance new zombies are being made. Good news world.
